February week 3

This week for lessons
we worked on
our English books.
Wesley has been working
on digraphs, contractions,
and compound words.  He
has improved immensely
with flipping his letters.
We still work on reading
(reluctantly) everyday.

Matthew has been working
on the different kinds of sentences,
editing stories, and identifying
subject and predicate.
He is also focusing heavily on
story writing.
For his scope classes he has begun a
5 week research project
culminating with
a written research report.

He has been doing his
math practice on khan academy
only if he is rewarded with
coding at the end of it.

Matthew has also been spending his
time trying to finish his
Minnesota gun safety.
Maybe Tom could've taught him
this one :)

We were able to get in one
more ice fishing trip
before Miller pulled it
off for the season.

On Tuesday for our
homeschool co-op
we went sledding.
It was an amazing hill.
HUGE.
It was at Battle Creek.
We were also able to
use their gym and play
basketball and soccer.
The kids had a really great time.

This week we also
enjoyed ourselves at
vertical endeavors.
We brought Matthew's
buddy with us.
The kids always have a great time there.

Thursday we went out
of town for Matthew's hockey
squirt B red tournament.
We spent four days in
the Fargo pool.

This was the team's last hurrah.
It was a good season.

Now we are on to baseball
and AAA hockey.

Until next week

February week 2

After my girls get away
I really wanted to spend the
week regrouping.  I felt
very rejuvenated and
compelled to focus on the
family.
In my world this means
Monday started out with
baking an apple pie. :)

The kids LOVE apple pie.
It is Tillie's favorite food.
They also love helping me
bake.  This recipe turned out
really well.  I do not want
to forget so I am adding it here.
Maybe you all will be inspired
to pie making;)
This time the crust was half butter
half lard.  It was perfect.
I cooked the filling and
I will always do that now.
I used the recipe from the

Currently I am working
with more intention on Wesley.
Matthew seems to have hit
a nice groove and knows what I
expect out of him.  Wesley
is slowly starting his nine year change.
I have found the Waldorf pedagogy for
this time is perfect for their soul.
I have read many old testament
stories.
I was able to download Jakob Streit's
He is responding very well to these stories.
When I read them it is like he is at a
well drinking them in.
He is also working on more
grammar and writing
Thank you Mad Libs!!!

On Tuesday it was cold and I
was desperate for my yearly
winter fix...Conservatory.

This place works magic
on us. I slowly make
my way through all the
beautiful flowers.
I take my time with all
the humidity and the
earthy smells.  I could live there.

Of course we ran around to
see all the zoo animals.
The kids really had a great day
checking it all out.

Wednesday was Ash Wednesday.
Matthew and I want to Mass.
I do like this time of year.
Lent for me is such an inner
focused time.  I feel we slow down
and notice the sacred.

Thursday we spent the
day on a waterfall hike with our
good home school friends.

The hill is steep, but the kids made the
most of it.

It was a gorgeous day.
A really good hike.
Seeing the places
I love in all seasons
is an inspiration to me.

Friday we spent the morning
ice skating with
uncle Bryce and cousins.

Over the weekend we
were invited to celebrate with
my cousins little girl.
It was her birthday. Tillie has
so much fun with her.
Happy Birthday Madison
thank you for letting us celebrate with you.

Until next week

February week 1

This week was a little
shorter.  I decided
to get out of town for the
weekend with my very
best girlfriends!
We had the best time.
I don't think I stopped laughing
the entire trip.
It was just what I needed.

Thanks for the laughs ladies :)

As far as homeschooling this week...

The kids had painting day on Monday.
They love painting.
After Christmas and birthdays
Wesley received tons of art supplies
everyone loves using.

We took a nice hike
at Big Marine Park.
After the hike the kids played on
the playground in a blizzard.
Another great day!

We spent time at the library
reading books and picking out videos.
Since I was going to be gone
I thought they would like a special
treat of watching movies.
Here is a list of our families likes
and dislikes.
In case you my have a sick kid
or help when your out of town. :)
~They watched Stuart Little
since we just read the book.
They did not like the movie.
Same with Treasure Island.
Wes especially disliked this one.
The Secret garden was well received.
They all very much loved
Swiss Family Robinson.

We took the kids swimming
at the local pool this week
for our gym class.

On Thursday we spent
hours ice skating
with our good friends
back at the Rec center.
We learned about the
science behind the
different skate blades.
Matthew loved this video.
The kids also had scope and violin.
Tillie has officially dropped out of
ballet.  Maybe we will try it again.
I do not want to push her.

Good week all around!

Until next week
