American history

I decided to deviate from our
curriculum a bit.

Monday was Presidents day and it inspired
me to discuss a bit of American
history with the kiddos.

We talked about George Washington
and Native Americans this week.

I lightly touched on these subjects to
give them an idea.  We read stories about the
cherry tree and George's honesty, and Pocahontas. It was fun.

We also worked on learning all the states.

So far he can identify about seventeen.

To work on letter recognition I also threw in some
fun word finds for the kids.  I think they really enjoyed it.

After, the school was over we went up and visited
Great grandparents.

They had a lot of fun ice skating on the lake.

Until next week

Week 3 ~ Language arts

This week we worked on penmanship.
We wrote out all the letters and this time
added words from our stories.

We used phonics to sound out all our new
words from the past weeks fairy tales.

We started two new stories this week.
We followed our usual rhythm,
day 1~I read through the story.
day 2~He recalled it and
we made illustrations.
Then, we wrote out a sentence from the story.

Here we are creating our work :)

We also worked on spiral forms
First we walked them

Then we drew them in many colors.

Week 2 ~ Language arts

(Re-capping the last three weeks)

It has taken a bit of adjustment since
last time I posted.  Slowly we are
getting back in the swing of things.

Dad is back at work and we are
back at trying to put rhythm in our
day.  We took exactly two weeks to
rest and really absorb bringing home our
new life.

Now we are able to do our studies again.

This week we started back with our letter recognition.

We did a letter matching game
matching the upper and lower case letters.

We went on to read two fairy tales.

We wrote out sentences and illustrated pictures
to accompany them.

We started to work on more phonics.
Practicing sounding out words.

Our second lesson was form drawing.

We covered the entire table with paper and
drew out all our forms.

Homeschooling misconceptions

Like everyone who homeschools well intended friends, family, and even strangers
question this unconventional schooling choice.
 I questioned it myself.

I found this article that sums up all the
questions I've been asked by others or myself.

In case you were wondering or just so
I can always remember
...please read the following.
