January week 4

This week was all about
Minnesota outdoor recreation.

Three nights in a row the
kids played in a bunch of
pick up games at the rec center.
Playing with their buddies on
the out door ice for 3 plus hours
every night.

I couldn't have been more pleased.
Until the most amazing thing happened
Taggert decided to hit the ice!
By the second night he was
skating and stick handling!

Homeschool co-op this week we
went sledding on a huge hill.
Despite the cold I had a
hard time getting them to leave.

On the academic side
of our schooling we
have been focusing more
on math.  I taught Matthew
long division and triple
digit multiplication.
He practiced through Khan academy.
I have been trying to read a
classic each week and
this week it was Stuart Little.
Which they loved.
On Thursday we spent the day at the Science
museum.  We went with our very
good friends.  We even stayed for
the Omni theater movie, Rainforest.
Matthew had a violin performance
at a nursing home on Sat.
Sunday the kids had hockey.
However, they spent the morning ice
fishing with friends.
We even had fish for dinner.

Winter in Minnesota at
its FINEST!

Until next week

January week 3

The week started with
a holiday.  Monday was
Martin Luther King day.
All the public school kids had
the day off.  Matthew spent the day
with  them at a fiddle jam
at the tapestry folk dance center.
He loves to jam with other kids.
He had an opportunity to play and
learn new tunes from his peers.
I love when he jams too.  He gets
a new fire and practices for hours.

The kids and I took
advantage of the cold
day and visited
Minnehaha falls.

The frozen falls were so cool.
It was breathtaking.

We also got to celebrate another
birthday this week!

My baby turned 4!
For his birthday he said
he wanted to get "really dressed up"
He picked out the shirt and tie.
He also wanted to spend the
day at the mall of America.
With most of his time spent at
Legoland.

He had a great day and
said he can't wait for another
birthday.

Two books we read  this
week I wanted to
recommend.  One was
Shingebiss
and the other was The Bat-Poet.
Both were perfect for this
time of the year.
Everyone liked them very much.

We finished the week with
Matthew in a hockey tournament.

Sunday was the biggest day
EVER.  For Christmas Grandpa
and Katie bought the kids a
day skiing.  They had never tried it before,
now they never want to stop!

To say they all loved it would be
an under statement.
Matt and Lindsay better look out!
They are already counting their money
for Colorado.

Many many thanks to
Grandpa and Katie
It was awesome!

Until next week

January week 2

This week started out
great!  It was Wesley's
birthday.  We celebrated
with just our family on Saturday.
We had too much hockey over the
weekend to do anything spectacular.
He still had a good time with our
gifts, special dinner, and ice cream cake.

We had an open day on Monday
and had his party at Pinz.
He had the best birthday
with very close friends and
lazer tag all night.

For homeschool co-op we were
back at the YMCA camp on the
St Croix.  We had a beautiful
building to have a fire and play
board games with our friends.
Although, our children all ran around
like wild banshees.  They did
get into a rousing game of Foosball though.

Thursdays science club as we new
it is no more.  I am sad to say that
it became a bit of a burden for some of
the parents.  We have decided to disband.
For the last hurrah we spent
Thursday at the Physics Circus at the U.

Time well spent :)

Friday we had friends over
for sledding.
It was very good week.

Happy Golden birthday Wesley!

Until next week

New year 2016 January Week 1

Coming home from Colorado
we started right in with our
lessons.  We had a long break
and I was looking forward to
our rhythm

For homeschool co-op this week
we spent our Tuesday at
MIA, Minneapolis Institute of Art.

We had the best day.
We had a guide take us around.
She explained all the details of
the sculptures and the paintings.

We were so inspired by all the
art of course we had to come home
to paint and draw.
We also researched artists
like Pablo Picasso.
He wanted to try a realistic face

Chalk drawing of dragon

Then, we were back at it with scope,
violin, and hockey.

With scope for the new term
Matthew is learning to compose
a short story correctly.

Violin, he is moving into his
second books of Suzuki and Fiddle.
He is also learning Swedish fiddle.

For hockey Matthew was in a
tournament over the weekend
They ended up taking third place.
He played very well and had fun.
The last game went into a shoot out.

Tillie is still working on her
ballet and phonics.
She is excited to read.

For read aloud I have been visiting
The Family Under the Bridge.

It is such a wonderful
story of homeless life
during the winter in Paris.
We highly recommend it.

Colorado

We decided to end December
and start the new year
with one more celebration...
Tom and I drove
the kids out to Denver.  We went to
surprise Tom's brother, wife and two nephews.
At first I was really dreading the 13 hours
with the four kids in a mini van.
It turned out great!
We broke the trip up
a bit and stayed one night each way
in hotels.
Continental breakfast

Post pool dinner party

The kids watched movies and
loved being in a new car.
With only one mishap...
We drove into downtown Denver
and we were 7min from our
hotel room...
the car ran out of gas!

Because we were there to
surprise his brother we couldn't call
him for help.
We had to wait for a state trooper. :)

Tom's dad and Katie were already
planning on visiting Matt.  So we
drove in with the plan to jump out of the
car at their house and they would think
we were them!
We did surprise Matt and Lindsay, but
to our surprise Tom's sister
Molly and family had already beat us
to Denver and surprised US!
It was an unbelievable double doop.
We all had two days to enjoy each other
and love up those kiddos!

The absolute best new year!
We got all the grand kids together

We also spent time in the mountains
at Redrocks.

Sitting on stage with Thomas!
The whole trip couldn't have gone better.
We love you guys and miss you already!
Thanks for the hospitality.

Happy New Year!!!
